The Lubrizol Corporation announces Lubrizol PV1205 has been approved for use in GM dexos1: 2015 lubricant formulations. Initial approvals have been granted for two formulations utilizing the advanced new Lubrizol PV1205 technology. These formulations represent the first paired 5W-30 and 0W-20 GM dexos1: 2015 approvals in broadly available SK Yubase Group III base oil, and offers oil marketers flexibility in manufacturing. Lubrizol PV1205 meets both GM dexos1: 2015 requirements and ILSAC GF-5, important specifications used in the global passenger car motor oil market. “We’ve leveraged some of our latest technologies to reach this milestone, and we can now offer our customers a solution that works with widely available base oils,” said Martin Birze, Lubrizol regional business manager. “Our goal is to make commercialization of GM dexos1: 2015 fluids more achievable for our customers.” GM dexos1: 2015 certified lubricants must meet several increased performance requirements, including stochastic pre-ignition (SPI) prevention, increased fuel economy and turbocharger protection. These performance requirements reflect the needs of modern, efficient engine hardware, and in meeting them, lubricant formulation and additive technology selected must be more advanced than ever before. Additionally, Lubrizol is continuing to expand formulation availability for additional base oils, better enabling oil marketers to meet GM dexos1: 2015 performance through a multitude of formulation approaches.
